Call for Entries
CALL FOR ENTRIES:
Cirque De Verre at Goggle Works September 2009
Cirque De Verre is a collection of dedicated emerging artists who have developed a framework for performance that draws on our knowledge of glass and uses it to excite, entertain and challenge the audience’s assumptions about art making. Cirque De Verre uses the idea of “the circus” and superimposes it on the space of the “glass demonstration” as an alternative venue for performance art. The metaphor of the circus is comical, but rather than being an ironic satire we wholeheartedly embrace art-as-spectacle and artist-as-performer. The line between art and entertainment is fluid and we are explorers in search of meaning and relevance. In an effort to make performance art accessible to the audience, we combine our postmodern artistic sensibility with the circus, which Vladamir Lenin referred in 1919 as “the people’s art form.”
The show will be done in the hot shop, for an audience of 150-200 people. We will have a digital projector and speakers available.
We are looking for performance and video which has some relationship to the theme of the show: the circus, and the overlap between art and entertainment. This call is open to artists and entertainers of all disciplines and your submission is not required to involve hot glass.
If you submit a performance pieces you must be available to travel for Reading, PA on Sept 11th, the show is on the 12th. If you are accepted we will discuss accommodations, travel and budget considerations.
